Transform Playtime into STEM Time with LEGO Classes at WCDC in Westchester

Updated: Aug 11

Looking for a fun, educational activity that goes beyond basic building blocks? At WCDC, our LEGO classes in Westchester are designed to turn your child’s creativity into critical thinking, teamwork, and real STEM skills—all while having a blast. With our LEGO Explorer and LEGO Challenge programs, students from Kindergarten through Grade 6 dive into age-appropriate robotics and hands-on engineering challenges. This year, we’re especially excited to align our curriculum with the 2026 FIRST LEGO League (FLL) theme: Unearthed—a journey into exploring underground worlds.

LEGO Explorer Class (Grades K–3): Where STEM Sparks Begin

Our LEGO Explorer program is the perfect introduction for younger students. Kids in Kindergarten through Grade 3 explore simple machines, structural design, and basic robotics using LEGO Education WeDo kits. They’ll learn how to:

  • Build models with wheels, gears, and pulleys

  • Use drag-and-drop coding to bring LEGO creations to life

  • Work together on themed projects inspired by real-world topics

With the 2026 "Unearthed" theme, Explorer students might design an underground tunnel system, build a digging robot, or simulate how earthworms aerate soil—all while learning foundational science and engineering principles.

LEGO Challenge Class (Grades 4+): FLL-Inspired Advanced Learning

Our LEGO Challenge program is designed for older elementary students (Grades 4 and up) who are ready for deeper exploration into robotics, programming, and FLL-style mission work. Using LEGO SPIKE Prime kits, students:

  • Build more complex robotic systems with sensors and motors

  • Learn intermediate coding skills and logic design

  • Solve weekly missions based on the "Unearthed" FLL theme—such as exploring underground infrastructure, creating robot arms for mining tasks, or simulating environmental research stations below the surface

Students in the Challenge class not only develop their STEM knowledge but also gain presentation, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. They’ll be well-prepared to join official FIRST LEGO League teams in the future.
