Westchester Child Development Center’s 2025 Summer Camp: Where Curiosity Takes Flight

Updated: Jun 12

A Summer of Discovery Awaits at Westchester Child Development Center

At Westchester Child Development Center, we believe summer is more than just a break. It’s an opportunity to ignite curiosity, creativity, and confidence. Our 2025 Summer Camp, running from July 7 to August 29, offers a dynamic blend of hands-on STEM projects, creative writing, and immersive field trips. These activities are designed to engage children in meaningful ways. Whether your child is fascinated by robotics, passionate about art, or eager to explore nature, our program transforms learning into an adventure.

Weekly Themes: Learning Through Exploration

Each week at camp is crafted around a unique theme. We blend academic rigor with playful experimentation. Here’s a glimpse into the journey:

Week 1: Animal Kingdom (July 7–11)

Children dive into the wonders of wildlife. They will build motorized LEGO animals and 3D print habitats. They’ll craft expository essays on their favorite creatures and deliver engaging presentations. This process sharpens both technical and communication skills. The week culminates in a trip to the Bronx Zoo. Campers will observe animals in naturalistic settings, connecting classroom lessons to real-world ecosystems.

Week 2: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (July 14–18)

The ocean becomes a classroom during this week. Students will code underwater simulations with LEGO submarines and design 3D-printed coral reefs. Through narrative essays, they’ll imagine fantastical underwater adventures. Geometry lessons will focus on nautical navigation. A visit to SeaQuest Woodbridge Aquarium will bring marine biology to life and inspire discussions about ocean conservation.

Week 3: Science & Experimentation (July 21–25)

Campers will step into the role of scientists. They will simulate water cycles and debate the ethics of artificial intelligence (AI). Argumentative essays will challenge them to analyze robotics’ societal impact. Statistics lessons will use real-world robotics case studies. At the Long Island Children’s Museum, interactive exhibits will reinforce concepts like evaporation and condensation through hands-on play.

Explore All 8 Weeks

From engineering sustainable cities with LEGO robotics in Week 6 to piloting drones and flight simulators in Week 8, every theme builds skills in creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration. See the full schedule for more details.

STEM Meets Storytelling: A Balanced Approach

Our camp goes beyond technical skills. We nurture well-rounded thinkers. During LEGO Robotics weeks, students progress from basic block-based coding to programming sensor-driven smart cities. They will learn algebra and logic along the way. In Art & Humanities week, they will design paper bridges and 3D sculptures using recycled materials. This blends engineering with sustainability.

Debates and essays are central to the experience. Campers tackle pressing topics like “Should robots replace jobs?” (Week 6) and “Is unlimited innovation safe?” (Week 7). They learn to articulate ideas with evidence. These activities build confidence and teach empathy. Students consider diverse perspectives on technology, art, and ethics.

Field Trips: Bridging Classroom and Community

Every Friday, campers embark on curated field trips. These trips turn theory into practice. At the Metropolitan Museum of Art, they study architectural marvels and global art movements. This sparks inspiration for their designs. The New York Hall of Science immerses them in cutting-edge robotics exhibits. PlayLand Amusement Park (Week 8) offers a thrilling backdrop to explore physics through roller coasters and rides.

These excursions are not just fun—they reinforce lessons in unexpected ways. After building eco-art sculptures in Week 5, a trip to the Museum of Natural History deepens their understanding of environmental stewardship. By connecting camp activities to real-world institutions, we help students see their role in a larger community.
